The research mission of PDR is ....

The development, adaptation and realisation of new knowledge, technologies and systems that support and facilitate creativity within the design process.

The creative application of new knowledge and technology in the design and development of new products capable of enhancing industry and society.

PDR is a founding member of the Wales Institute for Research in Art & Design (WIRAD), which aims to be the internationally recognised location and driver of Art & Design research in Wales through the development of a sustainable scholarly infrastructure.

WIRAD consists of centres, groups and networks under four over-arching themes; Design Enhanced Human Futures, Design: Policy & Practice, Fine Art & Ceramics and Film, Photography & Screen Media.

PDR's research activities fall under the two overarching themes, Design Enhanced Human Futures and Design: Policy & Practice.
